I highly recommend the book Improving Your Project Management Skills by Larry Richman to existing or future professionals aspiring to have career in project management. I read this book as a concise version of the PMBOK Guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge) that compacts the five categories of process management groups and knowledge areas.
Larry has kept his writing style and presentation very simple, and he offers plenty of real-world examples. I understand that this book is based on a seminar of the same name offered by the American Management Association. On that note, this book can be considered as a quick reference that offers information in line with that offered by the Project Management Institute.
The shelf life of this book is very closely related to PMBOK and its future revisions. This second edition of the book has kept pace with the latest version of the PMBOK Guide, and it can be taken as a great, quick reference book for practitioners. In particular, I like chapter 3 for scope management and chapter 6 for estimation.
As the book's promotion mentions, readers will get powerful tips from to improve processes, streamline productivity, and cut costs dramatically. There is practical and actionable advice on various knowledge areas related to project management.
